what is mindful wellness?
What would become Mindful Wellness began as a crisis in 2020. As an introvert, I felt like I was supposed to love this unexpected time of seclusion. I pretended everything was fine—great, even. My role as a counselor and a counselor educator had me playing cheerleader, problem-solver, and lighthouse in a storm. I believed that if I could be everything to everyone, my worth would grow from there. In the meantime, I told myself that no one would see through the smile frozen on my face to realize I was drowning.
Eventually, I acknowledged that I had completely disconnected from myself. But not to worry! There were a plethora of exciting aesthetic products available to fix that: notebooks, candles, pens, pairs of leggings. Social media presents self-care as making problems and uncomfortable feelings go away by covering them up with lots and lots of stuff. Every purchase was a promise—that this new object would be The Thing that finally made me feel better.

It didn’t work. I knew it wouldn’t. The truth was that I had to look inward, strip away all of the bullshit, and reexamine the imperfections and flaws that drove me to seek out The Things in the first place. It was time to stop running and ask, “Who am I, really? What do I need?”
This led me to Real Self-Care, a back-to-the-basics practice of meeting those needs through a holistic focus on hydration, nutrition, silence/prayer, sleep, and movement. And it is a practice. The world is busy, loud, and chaotic, and it can feel unnatural to pause with intentionality. But when I was taking the time to nurture myself, I wasn’t drowning anymore. This is Mindful Wellness, a tool I use to balance my life and my work in a helping profession. And I want to share that with you. Whether you are fired up or burned out, you have the power to transform your life into something joyful and fulfilling. My mission is to give you the resources and support to get you there.
