Session Information (1 CE HOUR)

Grief and loss often live beyond words. Clients may struggle to articulate their
experiences using traditional talk-therapy approaches, particularly when grief is
complex, ambiguous, traumatic, or ongoing. This one-hour Clinical Excellence CE
equips counselors with creative, clinically grounded strategies to support clients
navigating grief and loss through expressive, experiential, and meaning-making
interventions.

Participants will explore how creativity can enhance emotional processing, foster
connection, and support regulation when verbal expression feels insufficient. The
course emphasizes ethical, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive application of
creative interventions across diverse grief experiences.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this continuing education program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify common clinical presentations of grief and loss that may benefit from
    creative and expressive interventions.
  • Explain the therapeutic rationale for using creative approaches with clients experiencing grief, including neurobiological, emotional, and relational
    considerations.
  • Describe at least three creative counseling interventions appropriate for use with
grief and loss across the lifespan.
  • Assess client spiritual and religious concerns in an ethically appropriate manner.
  • Apply ethical principles related to competence, boundaries, and informed
    consent when addressing spirituality.
  • Identify risks associated with value imposition and dual roles related to spiritual
    interventions.
  • Apply creativity-based techniques in ways that are ethically sound, trauma-
informed, and responsive to client readiness and cultural context.

This CE is offered in our Clinical Excellence learning format. This format is designed to support applied learning through facilitated discussion, case-based examples, and guided reflection. Participants should anticipate opportunities for active engagement. While the learning environment is supportive and professional, this session is interactive in nature and is not structured as a lecture-only presentation.
