Spirituality and Ethics (Clinical Excellence)

Session Information:
This course explores the ethical integration of spirituality and religion into counseling
practice. Participants will examine ethical boundaries, competence considerations,
informed consent, and cultural responsiveness when addressing clients’ spiritual or
religious beliefs. The course emphasizes ethical assessment, appropriate interventions,
and referral practices while maintaining respect for client autonomy and diversity.

Learning Objectives (5 CE Hours):
By the end of this continuing education program, participants will be able to:

• Distinguish between ethical and unethical approaches to integrating spirituality in
  counseling.
• Assess client spiritual and religious concerns in an ethically appropriate manner.
• Apply ethical principles related to competence, boundaries, and informed
  consent when addressing spirituality.
• Identify risks associated with value imposition and dual roles related to spiritual
  interventions.
• Develop ethically responsive strategies for incorporating spirituality consistent
  with client goals and professional standards.

This CE is offered in our Clinical Excellence learning format. This format is designed to support applied learning through facilitated discussion, case-based examples, and guided reflection. Participants should anticipate opportunities for active engagement. While the learning environment is supportive and professional, this session is interactive in nature and is not structured as a lecture-only presentation.
